Start Early College at the University of Alabama
Want to get a major head start on college while still in high school? UAlabama’s Early College program helps high school students earn up to 30 credit hours before entering college. This can fast track a degree and also prepare students for college-level curriculum, further increasing chances for success once they have a full course load.
Who Qualifies?
Starting sophomore year of high school, students who have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher are eligible to apply for UA Early College. Juniors and seniors who meet the GPA requirement are also eligible.
Students will also need to pass the UAEC 200 College Readiness Course before choosing their classes. For more info on qualifications, read UA’s checklist for What do I need to be successful?
How Do I Earn Credit?
For many classes, students will have “Dual Enrollment,” meaning they take UA college courses in addition to their high school courses. “Dual Credit” is also an option. With this, students can take a college class and fulfill both a college and high school requirement. To ensure you earn credit, your high school must have an agreement in place with UA.
