SAT and ACTare optional on Spelman College
With access to standardized testing compromised by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Spelman College has dropped its test score requirement for new applicants. This is in response to the fact that many students were unable to take the SAT or ACT because testing sites across the country have been closed or have limited capacity.
Who is Eligible for Test-Optional Admissions?
Currently, the option to not submit test scores is limited to new applicants who are graduating high school during the current school year of 2020-21. However, Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell, president of Spelman has indicated that the school will consider extending the new test-optional policy if there continues to be significant barriers to testing.
Dr. Schmidt also assured students that they would not be penalized for lack of test scores and that Spelman values students for all their accomplishments. “Standardized tests have always represented only a portion of Spelman’s application review process, which includes many opportunities for students to share their full selves – all of their gifts and talents – with our admissions team. We are committed to remaining flexible and empathetic during these unprecedented times.”
